Plant Manager – Injection Molding (non-automotive)
Direct hire with benefits, annual bonus, and relocation
Visa transfer / sponsorship not available for this role.
  • Pay: Up to $135K base + annual bonus opportunity + relocation package
  • Location: Kansas City, MO general area
  • Appropriate Engineering Backgrounds: Injection molding is a must. Although non-automotive plant, company loves automotive backgrounds due to intimate knowledge of continuous improvement.
This direct hire opening is with a privately owned (non-automotive) plastic injection molding company that has multiple facilities in N. America. There are around 315 employees in this location.  Their product lineup includes semi rigid, thin walled products (hot runners) involving moderate tolerances and common polymers. The molding presses do not exceed 1000 ton and have between 12-64 cavitation.  There are a lot of moving parts and automated cells due to some products being further modified in other departments (not assembly). We will go over the type of product, application, and regulations of the plant when we speak on the phone. I reiterate: this is non-automotive and the company would love that sort of background.
THE JOB: Plant Manager, GM / General Manager, site leader over all of plant performance
This position reports to the director of operations – he is located out of the company’s HQ site in other state.  You will be over the whole plant – full P&L - which is operationally split into 3 segments, molding and two others pertaining to 2 distinct processes (we will discuss on phone). You will have the ops managers from each department reporting into you in addition to the maintenance manager, warehouse manager, and process engineering lead. HR and other staff side employees are dotted lines, reporting to their bosses in their own department (HR reports to VP HR at HQ, e.g.).
Here are the company’s hot buttons:
  • continuous improvement
  • floor-oriented manager who knows what’s going on in the plant (employees, machinery)
  • vocal leader for whom employees enjoy working
An automotive molding background would work well in this non-automotive environment due to the first bullet. They want you to know that they need someone who accepts that things are always changing and that if it’s not broken don’t fix it is the opposite of their mindset. For example, they were recently at 82% capacity, and now make more product than before at 60% capacity. They also want you to know that you’re walking into a well-oiled machine. This is not an operations turnaround at all – segway into next bullet. They need someone whose leadership style has heavy floor presence (not touching machinery by any stretch). This is because this plant and HQ manufacturing site have the same product and equipment, but procedures and processes deviate heavily due to tribal knowledge. Through floor presence and working with the Dir out of corporate, you both will get processes streamlined so both plants run more similarly – this will be collaborative and not do this to-do list in nature. The last person in this role didn’t relate well to employees – so the company will be examining your communication and leadership ‘style’ quite a bit.
  • 4 year completed degree
  • 100% required: Injection Molding plant leadership experience , strong C/I background
  • Experience managing 200+ employees at a molding plant
